January 2023 was a great month. My husband Andy and I went to Florida to Bee’s RV Resort (I recommend them) for a trial retirement (T.R.). We have friends who have been wintering there since 1986 and love it. I can see why.

I retired as a nurse in 2021 and moved into the semi with Andy. The reason why I say this trip was a trial retirement is because Andy had not had the experience of not working before this. 

We started out in North Carolina for 3 weeks living in the RV because Andy was helping out in the office of the company he hauls for. He worked in the office Monday through Friday for those three weeks in December. I was basically a housewife, cooking, cleaning, and laundry and it was refreshing.

We left North Carolina on December 31 and got to Bee’s Resort on January 1 to start our month without work. I recommend planning trips to places you want to visit because if we didn’t do that; we would have been sitting in the RV the whole 30 days.

We were close to Orlando, so there was plenty to plan and do. Our trips consisted of “sightseeing” stuff; Ripley’s Believe it or not museum and House of Mirrors, Old Town USA, Capones dinner theater, Icon Park aquarium, and Madame Tussauds wax museum. I even got a new tattoo!

My favorite was taking Chucky to the dog beach at Canova Beach! Watching him in the water and watching the other dogs play was the best time, even Andy enjoyed it and he hates the beach.

I TOTALLY enjoyed our T.R. and was glad we planned stuff out like we did and that is why I would recommend planning. We didn’t overdo nor overspend but ate delicious food and had wonderful adventures! We also very much enjoyed our time sitting still in the living room doing much of nothing.

This trip gave me a lot to ponder about where I am in my life. I am grateful for everything I have been through for moments like these. I am grateful for how I am spending my life RIGHT NOW.

It is February and we are back to the grind running the road. We are looking forward to the next time we decide to do a T.R. again, maybe for more than a month?!?!
